Soma Update - A Microchip Success Story!

Momma Soma, as we knew her in 2023, has once again found love—and while our hearts are happy for her, her story is also a reminder of why we never stop looking out for the dogs we have placed.

Soma was originally adopted through us and was recently found in Clymer, NY, about 20 miles from her first adopted home. We had to wonder how she ended up there.

Thank goodness for her microchip! Her microchip was registered to Saving Shepherds Rescue as a backup, which allowed us to be contacted and ultimately helped connect the dots. We will not go into details, but original adopter could no longer care for her.

This is exactly why microchipping your pets—and keeping those registrations up to date—is so incredibly important. A collar can come off. Tags can be lost. But a registered microchip can help get your dog safely back where they belong.

We understand that circumstances can change. Life happens. But no matter what happens, please contact the rescue if you can no longer keep a dog you adopted from us. We will always want to know and will do our best to help.

And please, if your pet is microchipped, REGISTER THAT MICROCHIP! Make sure your contact information is current and that you know which company the chip is registered with.

Because you just never know when that tiny chip might be the reason your dog finds their way home.
