Sheba Needs a Home!
Our girl Sheba is still looking for her home! Unfortunately, she’s been in a kennel for awhile now, waiting on that special person/family to come see her, fall in love, and take her home with them. The awesome team at Down Home Dog Resort, who is taking care of her wrote up this note from Sheba:
Hi friends, I’m Sheba!
I’m a 1.5-year-old Shepherd mix, about 40–50 pounds, spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Right now, I’m living at Down Home Dog Resort & Training in Meadville, PA, but I’m really hoping to find a forever family of my own!
Here’s a little about me:
My personality:
I’m affectionate and goofy once I warm up, but I can sometimes be a little shy at first with some people. I’ve got lots of energy, and sometimes I struggle with impulse control and focus (I’m working hard on this!). I can also be vocal when I’m excited.
My energy level:
I’m a high-energy girl who thrives when I have structure, exercise, and brain games. I get bored quickly if things are too repetitive, so I need an adopter who will keep me challenged mentally and physically.
Kids & other animals:
Because of my energy and puppy-like impulsiveness, I haven’t had direct contact with young kids. I’ve been crated in a car with children and did just fine, and I’ve been desensitized to the sounds of kids at the resort. But I’d do best in a home with no small children — maybe teens (13+) or an adults-only home.
I’m selective with other dogs — I do better with males my size or larger. I don’t do well with little dogs, and I don’t get along with cats or small animals (too much prey drive). If I do go to a home with another dog, I’ll need careful, multiple introductions.
House manners & training:
I’m still learning! I’m working on crate training — some days I’m great, some days I can be messy. I definitely need a crate at first so I don’t get into trouble when bored. I know sit, down, my name, “look,” and I’m working on leash manners, come/stay, polite greetings, and more. I have a tendency to bark when overexcited, jump on people, or pull on leash — my trainer is helping me work on these habits, and I’ll need my forever family to keep working with me so I don’t backslide.
My daily routine at the resort:
Morning potty & walk (15–30+ minutes), breakfast, kennel time, afternoon training/play/treadmill, enrichment activities (puzzle feeders, sniff walks, Kongs), and another walk at night. I do best with a predictable, structured schedule.
My ideal home:
• Adults only or Adults with older kids only (13+)
• An adopter/adopters experienced with high-energy or slightly reactive dogs
• A yard would be wonderful, but long daily walks and training/enrichment will also keep me happy
• Someone patient, consistent, and willing to keep up with my training. (Bonus if you’re local — Down Home Dog Resort & Training would love to keep working with me!)
Health notes:
I’m spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and on monthly preventatives. I currently eat Purina One, but beef sometimes upsets my tummy, so other proteins are better. I’m healthy with no known ongoing conditions.
Challenges (being honest!):
I’m still working on leash reactivity, impulse control, and crate training. I can be mouthy like a teenage pup, and I need slow intros to other dogs. With patience, structure, and continued training, I know I’ll shine.
What I need from my adopter:
• Patience for my first few weeks (at least) adjusting [I’ve been at the Resort since October 2024, so I will definitely need time to transition back to traditional “home” life]
• Consistent daily routine and reinforcement training
• Exercise for both my body and brain
• Commitment to continue my training (a professional trainer is recommended — and my friends at the Resort will help if you’re local!)
If you think you could be the patient, active, loving human I’ve been waiting for, please reach out to Saving Shepherds Rescue for adoption info.
If you’re not looking to adopt but want to help, please share my post so my forever family can find me!
Love,
Sheba
